The Magisterial Service (“MS”) is
established under Section 173 of the Constitution of the
Independent State of Papua New Guinea. Its main functions and
related activities are provided by separate Acts of Parliament.
However, its management and operational activities and
Determination of Terms and Conditions of Service are provided in
its enabling Act, the Magisterial Services Act 1975.
The Magisterial Service administers, manages
and sustains the operation of seventy (70) District Court
establishments and Four Hundred (400) Court Sitting (Circuit Court)
locations throughout the country.
The District Courts provide a mechanism for
the administration of justice and the resolution of disputes. Our
stakeholders and the people of Papua New Guinea expect that this
system of justice will be accessible, effective and affordable.
